EXPLORER 26 - KWAME FERREIRA

HOW TO FIND YOUR OWN VOICE AND CREATE A BETTER FUTURE FOR THE PLANET

SHOW NOTES

Our guest today is Kwame Ferreira, an innovator, serial entrepreneur, and the CEO of Impossible, a purpose-driven innovation group. In this episode, we talk about planet centric design, finding your own voice and how we can create a more sustainable future for the planet.

Planet Centric Design

“The key here really is balance.”

Kwame is the co-founder and CEO of Impossible, which he co-founded with his partner, the supermodel, actress, activist and broadcaster Lily Cole. He describes Impossible as a group of people, a group of relationships, who have come together to create products and services, that are helping to bridge the gap between individuals, communities and between ourselves and the planet.

At the heart of Impossible is planet centric design (narrying individual needs with the needs of the planet) and the company aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to Kwame, for a balanced future, we have to figure out a way to do more with fewer resources, and we have to ask ourselves why we do what we do.

Fairphone and Bond Touch

“More meaningful and more purposeful relationships are ultimately the happiness equation.”

Impossible helped to accelerate Fairphone in the early days when it was at idea stage. Fairphone is the world’s first ethical phone that offers a fully transparent supply chain. It is a social enterprise which aims to develop smartphones which are designed and produced with a lower environmental impact. It was founded with the aim to develop a mobile device that does not contain conflict minerals, has fair labour conditions for the workforce along the supply chain producing it and help people to use their phone longer.

Kwame is also the founder of Bond Touch. The idea behind Bond Touch was to foster more meaningful and purposeful connections  between loved ones by creating bracelets that mimic human touch. This way,  two people can stay in touch, and create a deeper bond than just texting. The vision are happy and healthy relationships. It started with touch, but the company is also going into coaching, conflict resolution and mindfulness.

Palma´s Reflection On Blind Spots

This week we invite you to reflect on and observe in which ways other people are a mirror for you, and what you can learn through the interaction with other people about yourself.

We also dare you to ask 3 to 10 people of your choosing about your blind spots. This requires a little bit of courage because some people might share some things that are not that easy to digest. But just try it and see how it goes.
